Upcoming Panel: "Industrial Policy: Above or Below the Radar?"

In every country, industrial policy is either explicit or “below the radar” for political reasons.  In the European and the U.S. responses to the recession, many economic interventions have been industrial policies in disguise.  In the BRICS and other industrializing economies, industrial policy is often as explicit as international trade rules allow.

At TCLab, we want to Know: Under what institutional conditions are industrial policies, and especially technology-intensive and employment-generating policies, above or below the radar?

We are pleased to announce a TCLab-sponsored panel at the American Association for Geographers meeting, taking place February 24-28, 2012, in New York City. Smita Srinivas and Qianqi Shen (Rutgers) will present preliminary results of some of their work “How special are the industrial policies of special economic zones in China and India?” Other TCLab Affiliates from the UK and Brazil will also be attending and presenting on developments from around the world - so come find us and say hello!
